The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) will host its 19th Annual Holiday Gala on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Hilton Miami Downtown. The event, themed “Celebrating Black Excellence,” will mark MDCC’s 50th anniversary, highlighting the organization’s ongoing commitment to advancing Black businesses in South Florida.
The black-tie gala, beginning at 6:30 p.m., will take place under the honorary chairmanship of Miami-Dade County Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III.
Honoring Community Leaders
This year’s event will recognize several individuals and organizations for their contributions to South Florida’s business and cultural development.
- H.T. Smith Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Willie F. Logan
Dr. Logan, President and CEO of Ten North Group, is being honored for his work in affordable housing and community development. A former Florida State Representative and Mayor of Opa-locka, Dr. Logan is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Miami School of Architecture and a global ambassador for the African Culture Fund. - Distinguished Service Award: Carole Ann Taylor
Taylor is a business leader and advocate who has served on numerous community boards, including the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. She is also a founding member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. - Citizen of the Year Award: Yolanda Cash Jackson
Jackson, a Government Law attorney, is being recognized for her expertise in governmental relations and her advocacy for civic engagement. She is a key supporter of local organizations and maintains strong ties with policymakers. - David Fincher Young Innovator Award: Trina Harris
As CEO of Touching Miami with Love and president of the Overtown Business Association, Harris is recognized for her efforts in community development and creating opportunities for underserved populations in Miami. - Jason Jenkins Unsung Hero Award: Oscar J. Braynon, II
Former State Senator Braynon is being celebrated for his dedication to public service, including his leadership as Minority Leader in the Florida Senate and his advocacy for underrepresented communities.
A Celebration of Legacy and Purpose
The gala will include live entertainment, fine dining, and a program honoring MDCC’s half-century of supporting Black-owned businesses. “We are thrilled to celebrate our 50th anniversary with this year’s Holiday Gala. It is a time to honor not only our organization’s achievements but also the exceptional contributions of our award recipients,” said MDCC President and CEO G. Eric Knowles in a press release.
