South Florida will continue the celebration of Dominica’s first Olympic gold medalist, Thea LaFond-Gadson, with the upcoming “Jump For Joy” event, set for Wednesday, October 9, 2025. The event will take place from 6 PM to 10 PM at the Miramar Multi-service Complex in Miramar, Florida.
“Jump For Joy” is part of the annual Miami-Broward Carnival Week and invites attendees from across the Caribbean diaspora to join in a vibrant celebration of LaFond-Gadson’s historic achievements. In addition to recognizing the athlete’s remarkable contributions, the event also aims to raise funds to support young athletes in Dominica by providing essential resources for their athletic development.
The celebration will feature authentic Caribbean experiences, including traditional Dominica cuisine, specialty drinks, and live Caribbean music, all contributing to a dynamic and festive atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to bring their national flags and represent their respective islands in a show of regional unity.
“Events like ‘Jump For Joy’ are vital to our diverse community and provide us with the opportunity to raise awareness of our neighbors in need,” said Miramar Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis in a press release. “We are proud to host this celebration in support of Thea LaFond-Gadson’s charity initiative, which showcases the strength and unity of the Caribbean community here in Miramar.”
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward supporting aspiring athletes in Dominica, offering much-needed assistance such as essential equipment and training resources. For those unable to attend, donations can be made directly through the event’s website, www.tojumpforjoy.com.
“I am thrilled to see the community come together to celebrate not only my journey but also to support deserving young athletes in Dominica,” said Thea LaFond-Gadson in a press release. “This event embodies the spirit of unity and love that defines the Caribbean.”
