The grassroots movement, Black Men Win Together, is taking steps to uplift and empower Black men in South Florida with its first-ever community event, the Black Men Win Tailgate. The tailgate will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Ives Estate Park in Miami, Florida. The event, organized in partnership with the South Florida Black Prosperity Alliance, aims to unite Black men across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties for a day of fellowship, education, and advocacy.
The event is free and open to the public, with activities scheduled from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance.
A Space for Unity and Advocacy
Black Men Win Together aims to build a coalition of Black men in South Florida to promote active civic engagement and address issues that impact their communities. The initiative is dedicated to driving meaningful change beyond the 2024 election cycle, with a focus on empowering Black men to take leadership roles in advocating for better conditions across the region.
“We are excited to launch the Black Men Win Tailgate,” said Ed Ponder, co-founder of Black Men Win Together, in a press release. “We are creating a space where Black men can share knowledge, build community, and drive meaningful change.”
The event will feature a mix of activities, including food trucks, merchandise vendors, live music, and educational programming. Attendees can also participate in voter registration and verification, fact-checking of candidate statements, and discussions on pressing issues facing the Black community.
Building a Legacy
Leaders within the South Florida Black Prosperity Alliance expressed the importance of this initiative for the future of the region’s Black communities. Eric Knowles, co-founder of the alliance, emphasized the historical significance of the event in a press release, saying, “This is starting a legacy. It’s making history. It means a lot for a group of Black men to have a vision and for others to come on board to push and highlight that vision.”
The event also aims to create a safe space for Black men to collaborate, support each other, and build a stronger sense of community. Jefferson Noel, founder of Barbershop Speaks, highlighted the empowerment aspect of the event in a press release, saying, “Being a part of Black men getting together and empowering each other fuels me.”
Get Involved
For those interested in attending, Black Men Win Together encourages bringing tents, tables, and food to enjoy the event with family and friends. The event is expected to draw a multi-generational crowd, including young adults, fathers, business owners, veterans, and community leaders.
