Filmmaker Yanatha Desouvre Shares How His Haitian Heritage Inspired the Making of His Short Film “The Sweetest Girl” | Next Screening April 19th in Lil Haiti

Miami-Dade College professor by day and filmmaker by night, Yanatha Desouvre uses his authenticity to provide the people with something he feels is missing. The product? His short film The Sweetest Girl.

The Haitian immigrant pulled from true events to produce the film, which explores a forbidden love affair, a crumbling marriage, and the dynamics that come into play from both. While the story is set in Haiti it was filmed in Miami.

On this episode of Can We Talk Podcast, Janey sat down with Yanatha to learn more about the making of his film, why he believes it’s important for authentic Haitian stories to be told and what inspired him to do so.

The next screening for The Sweetest Girl will be April 19th at 7 p.m. at the African Heritage Cultural Arts located at 6161 Northwest 22nd Avenue Miami, FL 33142. To RSVP for the screening CLICK HERE.
