The Adrienne Arsht Center Celebrates the 15th Anniversary Season of Free Gospel Sundays

The series will feature all-Miami artists, plus the return of GospelFest.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County will be hosting the return of FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS for its 15th anniversary season. This marquee season features gospel music’s biggest stars alongside Miami’s brightest gospel talents, on the stage of the Knight Concert Hall and across Miami-Dade County. WPLG Local 10 Anchor Calvin Hughes returns as host for the 2023-2024 season. 

Free passes for the first Free Gospel Sundays performance of the season, Tasha Page-Lockhart, will be available beginning October 11 at noon at arshtcenter.org. Sign up for Arsht Center emails here and be sure to select “Community & Free Events” to be the first to know when passes for remaining performances become available.

Free Gospel Sundays is presented by the Arsht Center, with leadership support from Rodney and Michelle Adkins, as well as the generous support of Baptist Health South Florida; The Israel, Rose, Henry & Robert Wiener Charitable Foundation; and the Friends of Free Gospel Sundays.

Pop-Up Performances and Locations

To inaugurate the 15th Anniversary Season of Free Gospel Sundays, a series of complimentary pop-up performances are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 28, at 5 p.m. These performances will be hosted at the following locations across Miami-Dade County:

  • South Dade Black History Center, 14508 Lincoln Blvd, Miami, FL 33176, in South Miami-Dade County.
  • Charles Hadley Park, 1350 NW 50th Street, Miami, FL 33142, in Central Miami-Dade County.
  • Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33056, in North Miami-Dade County.

All performances are open to the public and do not require reservations.

The 2023-2024 Season Lineup

The 2023-2024 season of Free Gospel Sundays boasts an impressive lineup of performances:

  1. Tasha Page-Lockhart
    • Date: October 29, 2023, at 5 p.m.
    • Venue: Knight Concert Hall
    • Tasha Page-Lockhart, hailing from Detroit and winner of Sunday Best Season 6, is celebrated for her gospel singing prowess. A two-time Stellar Award winner, she has further showcased her talents in reality series Grown & Gospel and even appeared in Tyler Perry’s Madea On The Run. Her lineage includes gospel luminaries such as Lisa Page Brooks and Warren Harris.
  2. Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show
    • Date: December 17, 2023, at 5 p.m.
    • Venue: Knight Concert Hall
    • The Blind Boys of Alabama, referred to as the gospel equivalent of James Brown, have left an indelible mark on the gospel music scene. Their accolades include NEA and Recording Academy lifetime achievement awards, induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and five Grammy Awards. The Blind Boys’ Christmas Show, featuring holiday classics, is a testament to their enduring legacy.
  3. Free Gospel Sundays 15th Anniversary Celebration: Music From the Bottom
    • Date: February 25, 2024, at 5 p.m.
    • Venue: Knight Concert Hall
    • The 15th anniversary celebration spotlights “Music From the Bottom,” a curated show paying tribute to Miami’s Gospel sounds. Local luminaries will take the stage to commemorate this milestone.
  4. Gospelfest
    • Date: April 21, 2024, at 5 p.m.
    • Venue: Little Haiti Cultural Center (OFF CAMPUS), 212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami, FL 33137
    • Gospelfest, an annual gathering, unites voices from Miami-Dade County church choirs in a celebration of Miami’s gospel heritage. The event will take place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.

Pass Availability for Future Performances

Passes for the Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show will be accessible starting November 29, 2023. Similarly, passes for the Free Gospel Sundays 15th Anniversary Celebration and Gospelfest will be obtainable from February 7, 2024, and April 3, 2024, respectively.
