Kids Foot Locker Provides Students with Day of Fun at Back to School Event With Surprise Guest, Miami Heat’s Haywood Highsmith Jr.

More than a dozen deserving students from the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Boys & Girls Club received a day of fun, back-to-school supplies and were surprised by Miami Heat basketball star, Haywood Highsmith Jr. at a recent Kid’s Foot Locker event.

The event took place late July 24th at a Kids Foot Locker in Miami in partnership with Nike. Fifteen students from the Boys & Girls Club were given backpacks, sneakers, lunch boxes, and water bottles.

The event was hosted by 103.5 the Beat Radio Veteran, Papa Keith, who held a surprise Q&A with Highsmith. The Miami Heat forward shared with the students the importance of working hard at school and sports.

“School comes first. You all should be getting A’s and B’s and making sure you’re doing good in school,” said Highsmith. “For the extra activities like basketball or football or whatever you guys are into jewelry painting whatever, if you’re really passionate about it you got to put that work in you got to put that time in.”

The kids were also treated so a skills clinic led by NBA trainer, Felix Flores, who taught the students healthy exercises they can do when they’re at home or on the playground.

“The basketball factor was meant to bring health and wellness and prepping for the school year together for the children,” said Anne Urist, Marketing Manager for Foot Locker. “The skids enjoy themselves, they were able to let loose and dance with Haywood Highsmith Jr. and overall have a great time. For me and everyone involved, that’s what it’s all about.”
