In honor of National Poetry Month, Dranoff 2 Piano Foundation in partnership with Adrienne Arsht Center, will be hosting its annual Piano Slam!
Returning for its 15th year, the spoken-word poetry and musical event will follow the theme “Hot Music, HOT Miami,” where Miami-Dade County top teen poets are invited to write about the music that makes them feel “cool” in their increasingly hot hometown for a countywide writing competition.
“This is an extra special year as we celebrate Piano Slam’s 15th anniversary and showcase the incredible talent of Miami’s youth,” said Carlene Sawyer, Piano Slam creator and producer. “The hot music theme captures the essence of Miami and the diverse sounds that make this city so unique.”
Piano Slam finalists will perform with a string quartet of international classical musicians, Piano Duo Spektra, Miami’s hottest dance band Afrobeta and professional poet Arsimmer McCoy. Students receiving the top awards will receive prizes of $1,000.
Piano Slam goes down April 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Knight Concert Hall and is free to the public. However, First-Access Passes, which give guests early access to general admission tickets, are now available for reservation.
