The award was created to recognize and celebrate South Florida Black Professionals that are change-makers and trailblazers.

Who is Barbara Jacques?
Barbara Jacques is the Founder and CEO of JACQ’S a vegan and sustainable skincare line created specifically for women of color. Barbara created JACQ’S after a health scare. As a way to cope with her illness, she began studying green medicine and holistic plant botany. The more research she did, the more determined she became to help others. Now…. she has dedicated her entire career to this mission.
Barbara created JACQ’S with a goal to help diversify the skincare industry with an inclusive and veganbeauty brand specifically formulated for women of color to address the unique skin concerns for melaninated skin tone. JACQ’S is not only a Green America-certified business, but the brand has also received investments from Pharrell Williams and Karen Civil. The science-backed collection is fueled with plant actives, probiotics, and antioxiants to formulate a collection truly for the often overlooked and forgotten skin tones.
In 2023, Jacques was named as the 2022 Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Top Black-owned Beauty Brand for her exemplary commitment to the health and safety of their patrons because she has lead the movement to address the injustice of Black beauty. She has also been named by Essence Magazine as one of the top 75 Black Beauty Founders three years in a row and the brand has also been featured in over 30 magazines including Women’s Health, Vogue and Elle. Most recently Allure magazine named JACQ’S as one of the top 14 Black-owned Vegan Brands to Shop Right Now.
Jacques is only just getting started! A Florida native, Jacques holds a Bachelor in Arts Degree in Communication from the University of South Florida. She has experience working for companies including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, AT&T, the Urban League and Sprint. Barbara continues to make an impact in her community by volunteering as a reading mentor with elementary students and mentoring at-risk youth in her spare time. Together with her family, they enjoy traveling and exploring new restaurants in the city of Miami.
