Started in 1979 under then President Jimmy Carter, Black Music Month also known as African-American Music Appreciation Month was instituted to recognize and honor the contributions of Black artists, composers, singers and other musical influences on the nation’s history. Today, the tradition continues with the nation wide recognition and celebration of Black Music Month.
This June, City of Miami Gardens Councilwoman Shannon Campbell will host two events to honor the creativity and innovation among Black artists within the Miami Gardens community, the largest predominately African-American city in the state of Florida. On June 3, 2022 the inaugural Young Voices Poetry Competition will take place at Starbucks, and on June 4, 2022 the 2nd annual Bahas Reunion celebration will kick-off at Buccaneer Park in the City of Miami Gardens.
