Reporters from the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel, who uncovered the truth about the Surfside condo collapse, as well as journalists from WRLN and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, are the 2022 winners of the third annual Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards for excellence in investigative and public service journalism. The awards, founded by the Esserman family and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, highlight the importance of local journalism and honor South Florida journalists who fight for truth, transparency and accountability to improve peopleโs lives.
The honorees discuss their distinctive news coverage in this year’s virtual awards video. The event is hosted by Telemundo anchor Nicole Suarez and features 2004 Pulitzer Prize winner and Miami Herald national columnist Leonard Pitts Jr..
