The next two months will decide the next decade of everyone’s lives. There are people preparing to intimidate voters, specifically Black voters and people of color, from exercising their right to participate in the decisions that will affect their lives and our communities. Black Men Build (BMB), an organization created for Black men to engage this country as an organized force, decided to answer the call to protect people at the polls this election season.
“Our people need us to protect the polls. We are looking for 1,500 Brothers brave enough to be a Black face in the place for our families,” said BMB in a statement on their site.
Phillip Agnew, a leader in BMB and advocate for Black Liberation, posted the call to action on his Instagram page.
“There is no one coming to save us. Our People are voting — whether you are or not. There are people trying to intimidate us from exercising our right to participate in the decisions that affect our lives and our communities,” said Agnew on his Instagram post.
“It’s important that we as Black men, protect our People’s right to vote, prepare for a turbulent violent election season, and protect our communities. Regardless of your voting status or your thoughts on voting, our people need us to protect the polls and our community,” he said.
Black Men Build is asking for 1,500 Brothers brave enough to be a Black face in the place for their families. BMB encourages everyone to share this with the men in their lives. The group will provide training and assign them a polling place to monitor.
