‘Tis the season! Check out how Miami Communities are celebrating the Holidays

Communities across Miami-Dade get in on the Holiday fun

All around South Florida, people are gearing up for Holiday gift giving, time with family and tree trimming time. So it’s only right, that many of the local municipalities showed their residents they too can join in on the Holiday fun. Hundreds of gifts were given, beautiful trees were lit and all out block parties took place throughout the county. Below are some of the highlights from events I attended and saw were trending on Social Media. Feel free to email, tag or inbox our team pictures of any events we missed. We’d love to share them.

Overtown Tree lighting and Block Party

More than 200 people attended the Overtown Tree Lighting ceremony on Dec.9,2015. The event took place in the heart of the city on Northwest 10th Street and 3rd avenue. Residents were treated to live musical performances before City of Miami Commissioner, Keon Hardemon, announced the count down of the tree lighting. The crowd roared and children cheered as the nearly 12-foot-tall tree was shinned bright with Christmas lights. Soon after, each child who attended were given a gift. Really nice gifts might I add. There were bikes, and dolls, and video games and Star Wars themed toys. Santa Claus even dropped by to pay the kiddies a visit. Each child had the chose to take a picture with Santa if they chose (SN: I always get a chuckle out of the little ones who are afraid of Santa.)

Parents and family members who brought their children to the Holiday Event were grateful for the gifts and appreciated the city sponsored event.

Mayor Oliver Gilbert and other city Council members partied with residents. Event host, Suzette Speaks, kept the program rolling. Get into their cool video posted to social media– click the link. (Maybe next year I’ll get an invite lol).
