Art Prevails Project is now accepting applications for its 2026 Say Sumthn’ Poetry Workshop and Showcase, a youth-focused spoken word program designed to help teens turn lived experiences into original performance poetry.
The program centers both writing and performance, giving young people the tools to tell their stories with confidence and clarity. Led by professional poets and educators, participants will take part in guided workshops focused on poetry development, stage presence, and creative expression. The program concludes with a live community showcase highlighting youth voices through spoken-word performances.
Say Sumthn’ is open to students ages 13 to 18 who are currently enrolled in a South Florida school or virtual learning program.
Past participants have seen tangible support for their creative growth. In 2025, finalists were awarded MacBooks to assist with their writing and artistic development. For 2026, participants will again be eligible for prizes, including cash awards, based on creativity, performance, and citizenship.
Workshops will take place at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) on Saturdays from March 14 through April 11, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The final showcase is scheduled for April 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., offering families and community members a chance to witness the power of youth storytelling firsthand.
Registration is currently open, with applications due by February 13, 2026. Attendance for the final showcase is free and open to the public.
