“Still We Rise”: Addonis Parker’s New Exhibition Celebrates Black Art, Community, and Resilience in Opa-locka

Miami’s cultural landscape continues to be shaped by the bold brushstrokes of Addonis Parker, a muralist and visual storyteller whose work speaks directly to the heart of the Black experience. This summer, Parker takes center stage with Still We Rise: The Art of Addonis Parker, a solo exhibition presented by Ten North Group that explores the resilience, identity, and legacy of Black America through the eyes of one of Miami’s most influential artists.

The community is invited to attend the Opening Ceremony TONIGHT Friday, June 13th, from 6 PM to 9 PM at The ARC (675 Ali Baba Avenue, Opa-locka, FL). The show will remain on view through August 30, 2025.

Backed by OneUnited Bank—where Parker has served as the artist-in-residence for the past decade—Still We Rise is a vibrant, emotional, and culturally rich collection that spans multiple mediums and themes. The pieces confront social injustices while celebrating Black joy, family, and identity.

Parker, whose public art can be seen from Liberty City to Downtown Miami, reflects on his purpose in the world with a poetic intensity. “God created me to never fit into a socially accepted box made for free consumption for false narratives,” he says. “My community is fed before my canvas eats… I am a soul. I am a father. I am a son. I am a Black man in America with vision and a heart.”

The show is deeply rooted in the tradition of art as activism—a legacy continued through Parker’s murals and also through his partnership with OneUnited Bank. His work has graced ten of the bank’s signature Visa debit cards, making him a modern-day griot using financial platforms to uplift the culture.

“As America’s largest Black-owned bank and a proud CDFI, we know the power of storytelling through art,” said Teri Williams, President & COO of OneUnited Bank, in a press release. “From Overtown to South Central L.A., artists like Addonis remind us that despite the obstacles, we continue to rise.”

Dr. Willie Logan, President & CEO of Ten North Group, echoes that sentiment: “In the spirit of Maya Angelou’s unyielding verse, Addonis Parker’s work reminds us that even in the face of adversity, beauty, culture, and community rise.”

Admission to the opening is free with RSVP via Eventbrite. For more information on the exhibition and other cultural programming at Ten North Group, visit their website or follow them on social media.
