The Miami Foundation to Host 10th Annual State of Black Philanthropy Celebration in Overtown May 22nd

The Miami Foundation is set to commemorate a major milestone with the 10th Anniversary State of Black Philanthropy Ceremony & Celebration on Thursday, May 22, 2025. This special event will highlight a decade of Black leadership, generosity, and community impact, taking place in the heart of Miami’s historic Overtown neighborhood.

The evening begins with the Ceremony from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at The Historic Lyric Theater, where guests will honor the legacy of Black philanthropists, community leaders, and families who have made significant contributions to South Florida.

Following the ceremony, the celebration will continue just down the block at The Urban from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, where the entire community is invited to take part in the festivities. The event will feature live entertainment, food, drinks, and a showcase of local nonprofits making waves in Overtown. While doors open at 6:00 PM for the general public, ceremony attendees will be welcomed in starting at 7:30 PM.

This year marks the first time the celebration portion of the event is open to the broader community — a bold step toward inclusion and community-centered philanthropy.

Sponsors for the event include Knight Foundation, Bank of America, Helios Education Foundation, The Simkins Family, The Martin Family, Terra, Stearns Weaver Miller, and iHeartMedia.
