Among the standout selections this year is Know Me, a gripping drama directed by Haitian filmmaker Edson Jean, which will have its Florida premiere as part of the festival’s Made in MIA competition.
Jean’s Know Me offers a deeply humanized perspective on one of Miami’s most infamous events—the 2012 “Miami Zombie” attack. Instead of sensationalizing the incident, the film explores the personal and societal forces that shaped the individuals involved, diving into themes of mental health, homelessness, and the city’s often-overlooked marginalized communities. Known for his previous works that authentically capture the Haitian-American experience and Miami’s unique cultural landscape, Jean continues his commitment to telling untold stories with nuance and depth.
The screening will take place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, an especially fitting venue given Jean’s dedication to representing Haitian and Caribbean narratives on screen.
