Vice-Chairman Kionne L. McGhee has allocated over $4.5 million to more than 200 community organizations, small businesses, and cultural initiatives across Miami-Dade County since his election to the county commission. The funding supports programs and services aimed at fostering community growth, cultural enrichment, and economic development.
Recipients of the funding include organizations such as A to Z Sports Organization, Inc., South Dade Women Veterans Alliance, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc., and Jazz in the Heights. Additionally, cultural institutions like Zoo Miami Foundation, the Historic Society of South Dade, and events such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade have received support.
“This investment reflects a belief in the power of community partnerships,” said Commissioner McGhee in a press release. “By directly engaging with organizations and small businesses, we’re ensuring that every dollar goes where it’s needed most—to the people.”
The Mexican American Council (MAC), one of the beneficiaries, plans to expand its educational and cultural programs. In a press release, President Eddie Garza described the funding as a “lifeline” that provides the resources necessary to make a meaningful impact. Similarly, Be Strong International, another beneficiary, is using its allocation to broaden its wellness resources.
The commissioner’s approach prioritizes direct engagement with organizations, small businesses, and artists, which he argues ensures public funds are distributed transparently and effectively. McGhee’s method has been praised for cutting through bureaucratic hurdles, enabling faster and more impactful use of resources.
