No Pet Left Behind: Broward County Animal Care Responds to Family & Pet Hunger

Broward County Animal Care (BCAC), Broward County’s official pet adoption and animal welfare agency, is joining the fight against hunger by participating in Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign organized by Feeding America to raise awareness about food insecurity. According to Feeding South Florida, roughly 250,000 people in Broward County face food instability. This staggering number highlights the growing need for community support and resources to feed families or pets. Throughout September, BCAC will participate in various initiatives and provide crucial resources to help reduce the impact of food insecurity in Broward County.

“Broward County Animal Care recognizes that when families struggle, their pets often suffer,”said Doug Brightwell, BCAC director, in a press release. “By participating in Hunger Action Month, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of people and pets in Broward County. We want to do our part to provide assistance and help remove barriers to hunger.”

The rising cost of living is causing many Broward County families to make tough decisions. Hunger Action Month is a call to action for communities nationwide to unite against hunger. BCAC aims to help alleviate the burden on pet owners and ensure people and pets can access food.

Key Initiatives during Hunger Action Month:

  1. Family and Pet Food Drives: BCAC is participating in the County’s Hunger ActionMonth food drive and distributing free pet food to needy families. Call (954) 357-1313 for more information.
  2. Free Pet Wellness Clinics: In collaboration with local municipalities (Oakland Park, FortLauderdale, and West Park) and the Broward County Library, BCAC will offer free pet wellness clinics. These clinics will provide vaccinations, microchipping, and wellness checks to ensure pets are healthy and protected. Schedule an appointment: ACDAPPOINTMENTCENTER.AS.ME/MOBILECLINIC
