Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee Joins Forces with Amazon to Bring Over 1,000 Jobs and Economic Opportunities to South Dade

In a historic milestone for South Dade, Amazon has officially opened a 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center in Naranja, a milestone for Miami-Dade County’s District 9. The state-of-the-art facility, equivalent to 17 football fields, will bring over 1,000 jobs to the local community.

The center is expected to generate numerous job opportunities for the community, with employees receiving competitive benefits including comprehensive healthcare, vision, and dental coverage. Workers will also have access to a 401(k) plan with a 50% company match and wages above the local living wage standard.

In addition to these benefits, Amazon is offering a paid tuition program in partnership with Miami Dade College, allowing employees to pursue degrees and advance their careers. This initiative supports both workforce development and personal growth, aligning with Commissioner McGhee’s vision of promoting lifelong learning.

“Bringing Amazon to Naranja is about more than just creating jobs—it’s about providing dignity, pride, and opportunity to the people of South Dade,” said McGhee in a press release. He highlighted the center as a key element in fostering economic stability and community development in the area.

Beyond job creation, Amazon has also teamed up with the Economic Development Council of South Dade to support the region’s long-term growth. Through this collaboration, local residents were given priority in the hiring process, strengthening the company’s ties with the community.

“This is a victory for the residents of South Dade,” McGhee said in a press release. “Together with Amazon, we’re opening doors for individuals and families, and this fulfillment center is a powerful reminder that South Dade is open for business and ready for the future.”
