Barbershop Speaks Partners with NABJ-South Florida and Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami for Fatherhood Enrichment Initiative

Barbershop Speaks has joined forces with the National Association of Black Journalists of South Florida (NABJ-South Florida) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami (BBBS Miami) to present the Fatherhood Enrichment Initiative (FEI). This event, a pivotal part of the NABJ’s Black Male Media Project, is set to kick off Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami headquarters, located at 550 NW 42nd Ave, Miami, FL.

The Fatherhood Enrichment Initiative aims to strengthen the bonds between fathers and their children by utilizing the unique and culturally significant setting of barbershop dialogues. This environment will serve as a platform for rebuilding trust and fostering meaningful connections, addressing crucial aspects of fatherhood such as confidence and discipline.

The event will feature distinguished guest speakers, including:

  • Dwyane Wade Senior, father of NBA star Dwyane Wade and founder of the Pro Pops Foundation, who is renowned for his leadership and community involvement.
  • Calvin Hughes, evening news anchor/reporter for WPLG-TV Local 10 News, celebrated for his outstanding career in journalism and media.
  • Desmond Howard, ESPN College Game Day host, NFL star, and College Football Heisman Trophy winner, respected for his achievements in sports and broadcasting.

Attendees can look forward to a series of insightful dialogues with these special guests. The event will also offer free haircuts, a podcast experience, and a complimentary breakfast, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for fathers and their children to connect and share their experiences.

The initiative underscores the importance of fatherhood and aims to provide a nurturing space where fathers can engage with their children and with each other. Through these engaging activities, the Fatherhood Enrichment Initiative seeks to build stronger family relationships and support the role of fathers in the community.

“We are thrilled to partner with NABJ-South Florida and BBBS Miami for this significant event,” said a representative from Barbershop Speaks. “By bringing fathers and their children together in a supportive and engaging environment, we hope to foster deeper connections and promote the importance of strong father-child relationships.”
