Hy-Lo News fam we hope you enjoy our new email newsletter feature where we’ll be sharing MORE news and information about policy, events, social issues, Black excellence, and Black culture. This bite-size version of the news will allow us to share information we deem important but don’t have the resources to do full reporting on.
(*Coughs* You can buy our ads and sponsorships, or donate if you want more original reporting and journalism from Hy-Lo News. We need it to do this important work that we LOVE to do for yall.)…. Ok I’m stepping off my begging soapbox now so yall can get into the FIRST edition of:
You Should know that….
…. TODAY all the beautiful people will be living it up in full Black luxury at the third annual Luxe Derby Weekend at the Carousel Club in Hallandale Beach. Tomorrow the Luxe Derby Weekend events will conclude with a private boat party. You can still get tickets so pull up!
….. A BULL has returned home with the hiring of NFL Star, Teddy Bridgewater, as Miami Northwestern Senior High School head football coach. I’m excited to see what Teddy does with the team. Congrats Bulls, but it’s always GO CAROL CITY CHIEFS (lol).
…… SPEAKING OF BULL Florida Republicans are pulling the BS again with a new proposed bill that will allow people to be fined for defamation for calling someone racist. White supremacists’ obsession with suppressing Black people and minorities is almost laughable at this point.
….. CHAIRMAN OLIVER GILBERT said the library was open when he read the people for carelessly speeding in school zones. He’s right, slow yall a**es down around our kids and schools.
…..BLACK WOMEN are literally dying for beauty and a new in-depth article goes into how getting perms or hair relaxers has been killing us. The study shows that lax regulation around beauty products caused it. Thank goodness for the ushering in of the Natural Hair Movement, but sadly many women had already fallen victim to the deadly Cancer that perms caused.
…..NO REPARATIONS for descendants of slaves is a proposed bill in the Florida legislature by Republican Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, who represents portions of Hernando, Citrus, Pasco and Sumter counties. He filed the joint resolution SJR-582 in November. I mean why are we even surprised at this point, but like the title of this feature says, YOU SHOULD KNOW what they’re doing to belittle and erase Black people in Florida. However, note to become law the bill does have an uphill battle for approval.
…… PEOPLE MATTER FEST 2024 is back and better than ever and takes place March 24th. This labor of love by 103.5 the BEAT radio vet, Papa Keith, and the PK4PM Team (which includes me and mostly dope women of color) is an annual FREE world-class Hip-Hop concert with a kids zone, food trucks, painting, resource village, and so much more. Y’all stay tuned for our big announcement of who’ll be performing this year!
……HY-LO NEWS IS HIRING for a new local news reporter, marketing & sales assistant, and sales manager so send your resume to Janey@hylonews.com if you want to join the BEST news company in the world Craig. ;-)… I’m excited to be expanding our team!
…..I THANK YOU for rocking with us and supporting Hy-Lo News as we enter into our NINTH YEAR of serving our community through sharing FREE news and information for Black and Brown Millennials (But yall know all ages and people are invited to the party just don’t tell us what’s on the menu!).
