The Greater Miami Service Corp, in collaboration with the City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King and the Department of Resilience and Public Works, will be hosting a Day of Service on January 13, 2024, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event is from 9 am-12 pm and will focus on revitalizing key areas along MLK Boulevard (62nd Street), spanning from 17th Avenue to 7th Avenue.
“I am thrilled to see the community coming together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through meaningful action,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levine Cava in her support for the project. “This Day of Service is a testament to our shared commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive community for all.”
The project locations include MLK Boulevard (62nd Street), the MLK Marquee on the corner of 62nd Street, and the Butterfly Garden at 54th Street and 6th Avenue East and West. The focus of the beautification efforts will involve painting concrete benches, litter removal, installation of plants at the Marquee, and mulching at both the Marquee and the Butterfly Garden.
The MLK Day of Service is a unique opportunity to pay homage to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by addressing social issues and promoting equality. By participating in the beautification of MLK Boulevard, volunteers will contribute tangibly to the celebration of Dr. King’s contributions to civil rights.
“We believe that beautifying the boulevard is not just a physical transformation but also a way to foster a sense of togetherness and shared responsibility within our community,” remarked Deborah Dorsett Executive Director for the Greater Miami Service Corp.
