Being Homeless In Miami Could Land You In Jail

By Nyam Daniel

Do y’all know homelessness is a crime in Miami?

According to the Miami Herald, the City of Miami approved an ordinance in November that “bans encampments and gives people living on the streets the option of accepting shelter or going to jail.”

Homelessness in Miami-Dade County hit a 25-year low in 2021, but the Miami commissioners who supported the policy said the encampments are an eyesore amid redevelopment in urban areas. Commissioner Ken Russell was the only commissioner who voted against the measure.
