Celebrity and Businessman, Peter Thomas, opened one of the newest restaurant on Miami Beach with the idea of excellence driving the spirit of the business. His new venture, titled Bar One Restaurant & Lounge, does not disappoint when it comes to upscale style and delicious signature dishes.
Thomas actually had businesses in Miami Beach dating back to the late 1980s and remained a business stakeholder in town until he left in 2004. However, it seems like he always had a special heart for the Magic City, and fast forward 15 years later and he’s back with a cool new restaurant for us by us. The restaurant is one of the few Black Owned fine dining locations on South Beach.
“He felt like there was a missing puzzle on South Beach for African Americans and Latinos to come and enjoy a spot where it’s nice and upscale. It’s nothing like that on the Beach. I don’t know where you can go and get good island coastal food. It’s upscale but it’s still affordable. It’s delicious,” said Jessica F. Marquez, the restaurant’s assistant manager.
The restaurant had a soft opening in September and then launched their full menu in October. Marquez said some of the customer favorite dishes include the skirt steak, stuffed salmon and salmon bites, which are a very popular item at Thomas’ Charlotte restaurant so he decided to add them to the Miami Beach menu. One of the restaurants signature dishes and best sellers is the truffle chicken. Also, the Caribbean fusion eatery now serves curry chicken and oxtails.
It was hard to choose but Marquez said her personal favorite dish is the kale salad with grilled shrimp; however she did end up saying that pretty much the whole menu has some of her favorite things to eat.
Bar One Restaurant & Lounge hosts “Sunset Hours,” which is their unique take on Happy Hour. They’ll also host brunches on Saturday and Sunday– with Sunday having a reggae music theme. What adds to the restaurants beautiful style are the great views of water from the restaurant’s outdoor seating area.
“The views are amazing of Downtown Miami and Star Island, especially at sunset,” said Marquez.
She had this to say about what people can expect when they come for the Bar One Miami Beach experience,
“You feel welcome; everyone greets you as soon as you come in. We have a door guy, everyone is dressed nice and the music is on a good sound base. You’re going to feel welcome here,” said Marquez, who has worked in Miami Beach hospitality and nightlife for the past 10 years. “We want people to come here and not feel pressure like they have to spend this or do this. It’s a relaxed and cool vibe.”
