In the latest episode of the Can We Talk Podcast, Hy-Lo News Publisher Janey Tate speaks with Jessica Bakeman, Founder of “We Met in Miami.” This is a new nonprofit event series helping adults 21+ find love and friendship through community service, civic engagement, and the arts.
We Met at Game Night series: This summer, they are hosting a series of free game nights at breweries around Miami. The next one is Thursday, Aug. 15, at Tripping Animals Brewing in Doral. This event will be in collaboration with the Miami chapter of ACENextGen, an AAPI networking organization, and feature mahjong and conversations about honoring culture and ancestry in our day to day lives.
They’ll have a third game night in September, details TBD. We Met at Miami Poetry Club: On Saturday, Aug. 24, at Green Space Miami, they are partnering with Miami Poetry Club for an event featuring guided poetry writing and conversation exercises inspired by the space’s current exhibit, “I Am Little Haiti,” curated by Haitian American photojournalist Carl Juste. We Met at a Local News Forum: On Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Books & Books in Coral Gables, they are partnering with the League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade for an event featuring a panel discussion and Q&A with local journalists on how they cover elections, with facilitated conversation exercises on topics of local journalism, elections and Democracy.
